Back in December of last year, Adam Feeley the high flying head of the Serious Fraud Office (SFO), made an unprecedented announcement. He told a Parliamentary law and order select committee that an arrest was imminent "relating to tens of millions of dollars in investor losses". Following the select committee meeting, when questioned by the Timaru Herald he offered that "all we are simply saying is tomorrow an arrest will made somewhere in New Zealand on a matter" and when questioned whether he could rule out Alan Hubbard he offered "no comment".
Feeley's tip-off led to front-page headlines in the Timaru Herald, The Christchurch Press and the Stuff web site (all Fairfax), speculating on whether Alan Hubbard's arrest was imminent.
